Batman Mystery Box Batman Wildcat Comic Book Issue Cover

Unboxing the Batman mystery box,  one week at a time.

Unboxing the Batman Mystery Box: Have These Comics Held their Value? (Part 1)

November 21, 2024

I picked up a Batman mystery box from Mile High Comics a few months back and am just now checking them all out and adding to my catalog.

I figured why not make some content from this and share the comic issues I receive and see if they’re of any worth! I can’t remember exactly how much I paid for the box of 50 comics, but it was around $45 because I picked it up in person. They do offer them online but their website is nearly impossible to navigate, but I didn’t tell you that. I also picked up a DC mystery box too but we’ll uncover those once we finish the Batman stack. So roughly we are looking at having paid .90 cents for each comic book. I’ll be comparing that value to it’s recorded value in Comic Geeks and if possible last sold price on eBay.

Now I am a Batman fan HOWEVER, I am fairly new to comics and am using this exercise as a way to learn more about the Batman universe. For instance I feel very uninformed about Robin and Nightwing and would love to learn more about his partnership with Batman and how he eventually went out on his own. There are a few other characters too that I would like to know more about and how they interact. One of those being Poison Ivy, my favorite femme fatale from the DC world.

The first 6 comics I picked were:

Batman Jekyll and Hyde cover Issue Number 3

Batman Jekyll & Hyde #3 / $1 value on Comic Geeks / eBay $1.00 sold

Issue 3 of 6, in this series Batman has been drugged by Two-Face and has his own struggles to deal with the Jekyll & Hyde syndrome. Since the new Batman show Caped Crusader came out, I’ve come to like the grey and black suit more than the other suits Batman wears. Although I wish his tactical belt was more modern and not tan/brown.

Batman Shadow of the Bat #60 / $2 value on Comic Geeks / eBay $4.38 sold

This series is one that ran from May of 1992 until December 22nd 1999. I’m not sure if this is a continual series but if it is, it has a bit more of a grim and gritty feel to it with this art. To be honest, this cover gives me the creeps a little.

Batman Eternal #3 / $2 value on Comic Geeks / eBay $2.99 sold

A 52-issue series that ran for a year in 2014-2015, this is about Batman and Robin working what’s described as the most disturbing case in their crimefighting careers. From what I’ve gathered, the big baddie in this is named the Mother and is the ultimate human trafficker.

Batman Family: Athena #2 / $5 value on Comic Geeks / eBay $7.99 sold

A fairly short series compared to the rest, this 8 issue series ran from 2002 to 2003. Although it seems like this issue was released in January going by the cover date. In this mysterious thriller, Batman is dealing with a whole slew of criminals and dealing with the Spoiler.

Batman Wildcat #1 / $2 value on Comic Geeks / eBay $2.70 sold

Right when I saw this cover, I actually thought it had Hulk on the front and I was like wait a minute… So in this 3 issue series, Batman and Wildcat from JSA, are investigating a secret fight club run by none other than Killer Croc. It looks like there are some killer punches thrown in this.

We are Robin #11 / NA on Comic Geeks / eBay $22.61 sold

What drew me in with this cover are the reflections in the goggles of Robin. In this 2015 run, Batman and Robin can’t handle all the crime going on in Gotham. What follows is a coming together of a bunch of teenagers adopting the “R”, but not as sidekicks or a gang, but as ROBIN.

So that was the first set of comics pulled from my Batman mystery box. There are a total of 50 comics and each week I’ll be posting videos and blogs of each reveal!

If you’re interested in purchasing any of these issues, please leave a comment or contact me via my website.
